Alida Martinez spent her early days in Maine with her brother exploring the extensive forests behind their home. Together, they chased rabbits, followed streams and picked milkweed and buttercups in the meadows. They would only return home when they heard their mother's long, shrill whistle calling them back. In her teens Alida moved to New Mexico. Her heart was captured by the scent of roasted chiles and the turning of the aspen leaves from emerald green to shimmering gold in the autumn sun. Still in New Mexico, Alida has been homeschooling her 5 children for the last 18 years. Now it is time to paint, and it seems that the myriad images of shared stories have been figuring and reconfiguring in her psyche. They are bubbling up to the surface of her consciousness and ready to be seen by the light of day. Alida's intent is to bring these beloved figments of her imagination to paper. Her hope is that her images would be a reminder of the whimsy and wonder of childhood.
